ELECTRONIC
VOICE PHENOMENA
|
|
There
is an impressive amount of evidence that suggests discarnate
entities can "imprint" a voice on recording devices.
In the recording process the spirit voice is not heard, but
appears later when the tape is played back. Similar to mediumship,
the mechanism that allows this communication to take place has
yet to be discovered. Skeptics claim that electronic voice phenomena
does not come from the deceased, but is merely a result of the
brain's natural process of creating meaning out of random noise.
Others contend that although voices are imprinted, they are
the result of psychokinesis from the living. Whichever the case,
in many "Class A" examples, the voices appear to be
crystal clear and immediately discernable. In addition, some
EVP's seem to be responsive to experimenter requests.
Many see EVP as being
important in survival of consciousness research due to the fact
that there is tangible evidence in the form of a recording.
Since "psi" phenomena tend to be spontaneous in nature
they present obstacles to scientists in a laboratory setting.
It is hoped that EVP will prove to be one of the keys to understanding
the nature of consciousness.

NEAR
DEATH EXPERIENCES
|
|
A
near-death experience refers to the phenomena of those who are
clinically dead and subsequently revived reporting personal
experiences suggesting an afterlife. Although every experience
is different, some common themes include detachment and looking
down at one's body, presence of a bright light, moving through
a tunnel, encounters with deceased people, feelings of warmth
and peace, etc. Recent developments in cardiac resuscitation
techniques have enabled reports of such experiences to increase.
There are also near death experience reports from people who
were not close to death.
Below
are links to a leading researcher in the field, Dr. Bruce Greyson,
as well as information on a research project currently being
conducted.

MEDIUMSHIP
|
|
The
study of mediums by scientists is certainly not a new undertaking.
During the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century,
there were quite a number of eminent scientists engaged in such
exploration. Such well respected researchers, including William
James, Sir William Crookes, Sir Oliver Lodge, Frederic Myers,
Charles Richet and many others conducted exhaustive research
utilizing sound and impeachable scientific experimental procedures.
Despite the overwhelming evidence confirming that communication
with discarnate entities was indeed possible, their findings
were not embraced by mainstream science.
Understandably,
research in this area in the subsequent decades was very scarce.
One scientist who decided to pick up the torch in mediumship
research, despite the obvious jeopardy to his status among his
peers, was Dr. Gary E. Schwartz. After completing his graduate
work and receiving his Ph.D. from Harvard, he became a professor
at Yale where he conducted research and taught for many years.
At the University of Arizona, where he is currently professor
of psychology, medicine, neurology, psychiatry and surgery,
he created The Human Energy Systems Laboratory (since
evolved into the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness
and Health). The laboratory houses the Veritas Program,
which conducts research studies of mediumship. In addition to
authoring scores of articles for professional publications,
Dr. Schwartz is the author of four books: The Living Energy
Universe, The Afterlife Experiments, The Truth
About Medium, and The G.O.D. Experiments.
