The
study of mediums by scientists is certainly not a new undertaking.
During the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century,
there were quite a number of eminent scientists engaged in such
exploration. Such well respected researchers, including William
James, Sir William Crookes, Sir Oliver Lodge, Frederic Myers,
Charles Richet and many others conducted exhaustive research
utilizing sound and impeachable scientific experimental procedures.
Despite the overwhelming evidence confirming that communication
with discarnate entities was indeed possible, their findings
were not embraced by mainstream science.
Understandably,
research in this area in the subsequent decades was very scarce.
One scientist who decided to pick up the torch in mediumship
research, despite the obvious jeopardy to his status among his
peers, was Dr. Gary E. Schwartz. After completing his graduate
work and receiving his Ph.D. from Harvard, he became a professor
at Yale where he conducted research and taught for many years.
At the University of Arizona, where he is currently professor
of psychology, medicine, neurology, psychiatry and surgery,
he created The Human Energy Systems Laboratory (since
evolved into the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness
and Health). The laboratory houses the Veritas Program,
which conducts research studies of mediumship. In addition to
authoring scores of articles for professional publications,
Dr. Schwartz is the author of four books: The Living Energy
Universe, The Afterlife Experiments, The Truth
About Medium, and The G.O.D. Experiments.
